I will be playing with the Elgin Symphony this coming weekend. We have a really excellent program planned:

LISZT
Les Preludes
R. STRAUSS
Horn Concerto No. 1
TCHAIKOVSKY
Symphony No. 4

Concerts will be Friday, March 31st in Schaumburg at the Prairie Center for the Arts at 8 p.m., Saturday at the Hemmens Theater in Elgin at 8 p.m., and Sunday at Hemmens at 3:30 p.m.

ESO principal horn Gregory Flint will be playing the soloist for the Strauss Horn Concerto. Check out program notes here. Click here to order tickets.

The conductor for this series of concerts is Alexander Mickelthwate, one of the assistant conductors for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. I haven’t worked with him before, but the Elgin Symphony typically gets really excellent conductors, so I am looking forward to it.

Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 is a real workout for the bass section, and a lot of my students have had to learn it for All-State Orchestra auditions, concerts, or for professional orchestra auditions. This would be a great opportunity to hear an excellent orchestra play it.
