The excellent bassist and educator Peter Tambroni has just released his new book. It is titled “Introduction to the Double Bass”, and it is a really excellent resource for bassists of any age or skill level. I recommend that all of my students pick up a copy of this. It fills in all the gaps that traditional method books miss, covering topics such as posture, standing or sitting, instrument alignment, balancing the bass, warm-ups, bow hair, and practicing. It also contains a wealth of information for teachers and parents, including discussions of instrument sizes, French or German bow, choosing a bass method, choosing a teacher, loading a bass into a car, properly storing and caring for a bass, things to look for when buying a bass, and the like. There are a lot of very helpful photos and musical examples throughout.
