Cleveland Orchestra bassist Charles Barr was struck and killed by a truck this past Friday. He was riding home from work on his bicycle. Charles and I were the same age, and we had worked together when I subbed in the New World Symphony. Before becoming a member of the Cleveland Orchestra he was principal bass of the Charleston Symphony. He was a great guy and a great bass player, and he will be missed.
