Benefit for Joe Segal’s Jazz Showcase

My good friend Jeff Yang sent this announcement to me recently regarding a benefit for Chicago’s venerable Jazz Showcase. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about this topic that you can read here.

The announcement reads:

Many of you may have heard the Jazz Showcase downtown did not get their lease renewed and will have to relocate this coming year. Please come out and support Joe Segal and keep the Jazz Showcase alive as it is one of the oldest and most prestigious jazz clubs in America. We will be playing a special show Monday November 20th featuring Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues with special guest Howard Levy.

BENEFIT FOR JOE SEGAL’S JAZZ SHOWCASE

Many of our friends have expressed interest in helping to support Chicago treasure Joe Segal.

As you may know, Joe Segal’s legendary Jazz Showcase is moving from its current location after January 1st, 2007. They don’t have a new location yet, but Joe has promised that the club will live on someplace else.

Corky Siegel, Howard Levy, and the Traveling Chamber Blues Show are giving a benefit on Monday, November 20th at 8pm to help Joe in his efforts to move to a new downtown location.

To help make attending this special event as easy as possible, you can now purchase tickets online. Tickets are $100 per person.

When Corky’s manager (and wife) Holly commended the 80 year old Joe Segal on pushing forward and continuing on the legacy, he responded wryly “….what else would I do – Just sit at home?”

Don’t sit at home! Come celebrate with Corky, Howard, and Chamber Blues and help honor all the great performers who have passed through the Showcase since it opened in 1947, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and young legends like Diana Krall and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

The Jazz Showcase is currently located at 59 W. Grand Avenue in Chicago.

Please join us in our support of this one-of-a-kind music club.
