Wired News put out a recent story on a musical instruction web app recently demoed at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. It is called In the Chair, and it sounds like a real step forward for music education. Check out the demo video:
This is the sort of thing that I would love to have my students use. Here is a video that describes the features in more depth:

Love your blog Jason!
I’m a frequent reader, always great material!
I’m curious to hear how successful this method is. While it seems like it may be useful for very…VERY elementary players (assuming all the equipment works properly (confidence meter?!?!)), I’m a little worried about the whole lack of communication aspect. Ill be interested to see how reviews turn out for this method.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Eric! It’ll be interesting to see if thing thing works well. I wouldn’t expect that older students would use this, but beginners would probably get something out if it. It seems like something that would be good for kids in addition to private lessons, orchestra, and regular practice. It looks like it would be fairly fun to work with and would give the students some ensemble and rhythm practice that would carry over to orchestra rehearsals. Anything that encourages young students to put some time in on the instrument is a good thing.
