The great pianist Irina Feoktistova (who accompanied me for my recital on the “Amati” bass) also performs with the Millennium Chamber Players. They have several upcoming performances in the Chicago area:

The Millennium Chamber Players proudly announces principal flute Masumi Yoneyama with solo pianist Irina Feoktistova in a recital featuring Cesar Franck’s Sonata in f-minor, Isang Yun’s rarely heard Garak (1963), and Andre Jolivet’s Sonata for Flute and Piano ‘Chant de Linos’.

Franck’s Sonata is well known as one of the greatest masterpieces for flute and piano, possessing great depth and beauty. Masumi is well respected for her interpretation of this grand and glorious work; paired with Irina’s powerful command of the piano, you are bound to be moved! Then prepare for fireworks in Isang Yun’s Garak for flute and piano, a piece that requires uncommonly great agility and flexibility from the performers. Isang Yun is one of the few composers who have successfully birthed a hybrid of Korean Folk elements with modern west-European compositional techniques. Jolivet dedicates the ‘chant de Linos’ to the return of mysticism and lyricism in music. Jolivet is often referred to the flute as the “great instrument of
humanity in music”.
