I realized yesterday that I had not added the excellent blog Adaptistration by Drew McManus to my music blogroll. I just did so, and you can find it in my sidebar on the left. Drew’s blog is about the changing face of the symphony orchestra, and it is a really excellent classical music insider blog. I try to check in every day, and I’d encourage classical musicians or those interested in inner workings of this industry to do the same.
Drew moved to Chicago earlier this year, and I have had a good time meeting him and performing with his wife Holly in many ensembles here in Chicago. I remember being at a party after one of the Chicago Opera Theater performances of Nixon in China by John Adams. Brian Dickie, the general manager of COT (and another prominent blogger), was also at the party, and he and Drew were chatting up a storm.

Hi Jason, thanks for the mention and I’m pleased to learn that you enjoy the blog. Similarly, I think your blog is an exemplary example of how an individual musician blog should work: worthwhile insight into instrument specific issues mixed in with larger classical music business topics. It’s right up there with oboeinsight! Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Drew! I started this blog as a lesson assignment repository for my students less than a year ago, and it has really taken off over the last several months. I just need to try my utmost to keep the cat postings to a minimum.
