I have to be careful to not play music that falls under an ASCAP/BMI license, but I have done enough research on this subject to have a good grasp of what is and what is not podsafe. I don’t want to get into murky legal waters with the show, so I will err on the safe side if there is any question.
In addition to user submissions, I have been and will continue to use music from the Podsafe Music Network and the IODA PROMONET Alliance. These are two organizations which provide music tat is legal to play on podcasts. They both have a huge number of tracks, and I’ve got a lot of great stuff lined up from both services. The PMN (Podsafe Music Network) features mostly independent artists, while IODA is an association of record labels, which allows for music from certain labels and certain albums to be played. I was just listening to some Public Enemy from IODA, although that probably won’t be appearing in any upcoming Contrabass Conversations.
