I am really into podcasting, both as a listener and as a creator. I subscribe to at least 50 different podcasts covering a ton of different subjects, and I figured that it would be fun to share a random sampling of the podcasts that I have found interesting. Every week or so, I will post a totally random list of five podcasts that I enjoy.
For those of you who haven’t listened o many podcasts, you may not be aware that it is not necessary to have an iPod or any other such device to listen to a podcast. You can visit the websites of any of the podcasts listed below and listen to any episode. Also, podcasts are (99% of the time) totally free. Even though the term ‘subscribe’ is used when getting a podcast automatically delivered, there is no charge to listen to this content.
Five podcasts I like:
Coverville – Brian Ibbott’s phenomenal show features nothing but artists covering other artists. It is one of the few podcasts playing RIAA music (legally). Every show has a theme, and every show is a real gem.
This Week in Tech – Leo Laporte and former Tech TV/Screensavers folks get together via Skype weekly for a very fun and addictive show. This is almost certainly the most popular podcast out there, with 250,000-500,000 listeners frequently tuning in each week. If you like tech, you’ll love this.
Amateur Traveler – This is a very engaging show in an iTunes enhanced format. This means that you get photos, links, and other content if you listen to this through iTunes or with an iPod.
Filmspotting – The best show abut movies, hands down, on TV/radio/Internet. Ira Glass from This American Life calls in to comment–if he likes the show, how can you resist?
Contrabass Conversations – Shameless self-promotion from yours truly.
