I have been doing some work on my download offerings from this blog, adding some new materials (new scales from John Floeter, blank sheet music). I am planning on adding a large number of downloadable double bass MIDI practice tracks. This makes much more sense than putting up Finale or Sibelius files. With MIDI files one can simply open them in any music notation software package. Tempo and other variables can then be adjusted for practicing purposes.

I wish I could offer MP3s of live orchestras performing the standard repertoire, but this is not possible for legal reasons (although one can always poke around online for such files). I plan on having some performances of the major excerpts by double bass professionals on my podcast Contrabass Conversations in the near future, as well as general advice about practicing, taking auditions, and the like.

If anyone reading this blog has MIDI files, PDF scales or exercises that are not under copyright, or other such double bass resources that they would like to have available to the general public, please e-mail me with them. I will post them on my downloads page (and give you credit). I have ample server space for this sort of material, and this may be a convenient way for teachers wishing to serve up some content to students but not wanting to bother with getting server space to get material online.
