Double Bass MySpace Page Archive

I may regret starting this mammoth project, but I am going to try to provide a listing of double bass pages on MySpace. I have always had a hard time figuring out how to link to these pages. Are they blogs? Sometimes, but usually not.
I like it whenever I find a [...]

Bach and Modern Technology Post

Jacque Harper sent me a link to this recent post from On An Overgrown Path. It is a review of Vivaldi and the Number 3 by Ron Butlin, which sounds like a very interesting book. Check out the post here–it’s a lot of fun, and it looks like a good book.

Oh Chicago, why are you so miserable?

If you want to read about real winter misery, check out my story titled Freelancing + Snow = Pain.

Digging through my archives, I realized that I had posted this before but had not correctly archived it [...]

More press for the Multi-Faceted Ted Atkatz

Former Chicago Symphony Orchestra principal percussionist was featured in a recent New York Times article. Double bassist John Grillo let me know about this article, which is definitely worth a read.
I played with Ted in the American Russian Youth Orchestra (see my crazy gig story about this trip), which was a really insane trip. [...]

Alper Mufettisoglu plays the Gliere Tarantella

Are you in the mood for some rip-roaring, top-notch bass playing? Then check out this video of double bassist Alper Mufettisoglu playing an extremely virtuosic rendition of Gliere’s Tarantella, the fourth in his series of pieces for the double bass.

Road Warrior without an Expense Account Part IV – Rising Tide, Shrinking Pool

This is the fourth installment of my Road Warrior without an Expense Account series. The intent of this installment is to highlight the increased competition for the progressively decreasing full-time orchestral positions. The statistics I present here are only theoretical and may certainly differ from the exact number or audition openings and candidates, but [...]
