The 2007 Whitewater Winter Bassfest, an event that I started five years ago at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, just happened a couple of weekends ago. Scott Kreger, the new double bass instructor at UWW and a member of the Milwaukee Symphony, was teaching there, as were double bassists Kate Nettleman and Peter Tambroni.
Evan Burchett, a student of Des Moines Metro Opera principal bassist Jeremy Baguyos, was at the festival and was kind enough to send me some photos of the recital. Here are a few shots he took of the recital.
These shots came out a little blurry (Evan wasn’t using the flash in the recital), but you can see that I am talking as I am playing, which means that I’m doing ‘Failing’ here.
Here’s a shot of Kate Nettleman and I playing duets on the recital. You can see that I am playing an old German bass for this event and not my Jakstadt. The logistics worked out so that it was much easier to use this instrument, which is also a good bass.

Finally, here is a clip of me playing ‘Failing’ on the recital. The sound is pretty low (it was recorded on a still camera from the audience in a boomy hall), but you can still make out what is going on.

Hi Jason, thanks for putting my pictures up on your site. Seeing them again brings back memories of my trip to Whitewater.
