Boguslaw Furtok plays the last movement of the Eccles Sonata
Here is a short (but excellent) clip of double bassist Boguslaw Furtok playing the last movement of the Eccles Sonata. The camera zooms in on his right hand, giving viewers an opportunity to check out his bow grip. German players are most likely more aware of the difference in bow grip styles than I am (being a French bow players), but it seems to me that Boguslaw holds his bow similarly to Miloslav Gajdos.

J-Good observation on the ‘bow hold’. I met Furtok in the early 90’s in Poland and had beer, saugage, and bass talk. He spoke of his style as the “Warnecke” hold..as in Friedrich Warnecke (1856,Hannover-1931,Hamburg). Furtok indicated Warnecke had a tremendous influence on central European players. Gajdos, who studied with Streicher among others, does not hold his middle finger so away from the bow.
