I am a big fan of gig stories from classical musicians (you can read my own stories here). I had an e-mail sent to me a little while back letting me know about bassist Justin Locke and his book of classical music gig stories titled Real Men Don’t Rehearse. I’ll include ordering information for this book at the end of this post.

Justin was a freelance bassist in the Boston area, and he has played with all of the best ensembles in the area. I have not read this book yet, but I plan on picking up a copy myself–it looks like a great read. I really like books like these (Blair Tindall’s Mozart in the Jungle is another great example of a gig story book), and they have great appeal to both classical musicians and the general public. It’s always good to humanize our craft, and nothing does so better than a little humor.
