String Tone Matrix

Double bassist Eric Hochberg sent me a link to a fascinating and useful string tone comparison site by bassist Herve Jeanne. This site compares the tonal characteristics of the pizzicato sounds of:

Velvet Garbo
Velvet Anima
Pirastro Chorda
Pirastro Pizzicato
Pirastro Oliv
Pirastro Obligato
Pirastro Jazzer
Thomastik Spirocore
Presto Nylonwound
Aquila Nylgut

What a great idea, and what a useful resource! I’d love to see a chart like this for classical bowed strings as well. Check out the various examples that Herve offers. It is very interesting and very educational. Visit his comparison chart here.
