I have been playing around with the web service mylot quite a bit recently, and I’ve kind of gotten hooked. There is nothing completely original about this service, but it combines a message board, photo sharing, and social networking site together into a really nice, sleek package. You also get paid a certain amount depending on how many people check out your postings. Seeing your dollar amount slowly go up in the side bar and the recommendation engine find more topics you would be interesting can make for a very fun experience, and I find myself checking in regularly.

It is interesting to see how companies continue to combine standard new media conventions–social networking, tagging, photo sharing, blogging and commenting–in new and interesting ways. I’m not sure how this company is making money given the fact that users all get paid to use the service. Perhaps the discussions and photos drive search engine traffic to the site, generating revenue solely through clicking on ads. Regardless, it is a fun service that is worth a look.
