I just finished a long session of coding, and I’d like to let people know that the John Grillo and Andy Anderson Recital Showcase pages now have an option to either listen to or download each individual track. This should be a lot of fun for bassists out there and a grat benefit to those looking for double bass recordings.

I’m a big believer in open content. There is so much talent in the double bass community, and there are so many great recordings out there that will probably not make it on a commercial release. Double bass recordings are not exactly a cash cow (how many recordings does any bass player besides Edger Meyer sell, after all?), and making one takes a great deal of time, effort, and expense. If you’ve played a recital or made an audition tape and you’d like to share your efforts with the community, please e-mail me any tracks you have. I will happily add them to this archive. Making this sort of material easily accessible to students, teachers, and the bass community in general is one of the goals of this blog.

As the recital showcase grows (and you can help it grow by e-mailing me any tracks you’d like added) I will add an index so that people can easily find the different versions of works by Koussevitzky, Bottesini, and the like. I’ll wait for a few more pages to added before I add this feature. In the meantime, feel free to browse the following list of tracks currently available:

There is some overlap, as you can see, and an index will help to navigate this growing collection. I’m just about to dump a huge amount of tracks onto the site from double bassist Phillip Serna (you can hear him on Contrabass Conversations in several interviews here), and at that point an index will become quite handy.

Again, I am more than happy to add contributions from anyone interested in submitting tracks. If you would prefer to be anonymous I will completely respect your privacy and make no mention of your name–your choice. If you want to let people know who you are, you can send me a photo and bio and I will create a specific page for you. You can then direct people to that page to let them hear your playing and read your bio.
