This is an announcement for two upcoming concerts featuring National Symphony Orchestra double bassist Jeffrey Weisner. Jeff also teaches bass at the Peabody Institute, and he maintains a blog through Peabody as well. Below the announcement are links for information on the venue, tickets, and the like. I hope that readers in the area can make it to the performances!

From Jeff:

I wanted to let fellow bassists (and a few family members) know about some upcoming concerts I’ll be playing in this month. I’ll be premiering the revised version of “Alba and Ostinato” for bass and orchestra, written by my friend Tom Schnauber, with the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. The concerts are Friday, April 27 at 7:30 and Saturday, April 28 at 8:00 at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. The Friday performance is actually a casual “open dress rehearsal” event, where the conductor chats with the audience and the musicians don’t dress up. The Saturday performance is a more traditional concert format. The rest of the program is choral music by Vaughan Williams and Orff.

The concerto is great. Tom did a lot of revisions after the premiere, and I think that it’s made it an even stronger piece. It’s in two movements, the first lyrical and the second energetic and rhythmic. I’m going to be premiering the bass and piano version at the 2007 International Society of Bassists Convention this summer, so this is a chance to hear it in it’s full orchestral glory before I take it on the road….

Here’s some places for more info on the concert and venue. I don’t know the situation yet vis a vis comp tickets, but if you’re interested in one let me know and I’ll keep you posted.
