Dear Bassists,

I am very excited to invite you to the 5th annual Boston Bass Bash! The BBB 2007 will be held from June 29 to July 1 at the New England Conservatory in Boston and we will also offer a program for young bassists on June 30 and July 1. This event is designed for classical and jazz bass players of all ages and levels and will offer an introductory class to electric bass playing.

The BBB is one of the only running events of its kind on the East Coast and I hope that you will all take advantage of this great opportunity.

In celebration of our 5th anniversary, I am pleased to introduce you to our world-class faculty which will include Edwin Barker, principal bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and double bass professor at Boston University; David Murray, double bass professor at Butler University, principal bass of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and past president of the ISB; Dutch bassist Rudolf Senn, principal bass of the Netherlands Philharmonic and member of Grand Duo; Harvie S, world-renowned jazz bassist and double bass professor at the Manhattan School of Music; Helen Stevenson, director of the Mini Bass Program and author of the American Coulourstrings Double Bass books at NEC and French bassist Pascale Delache-Feldman, co-founder of Cello e Basso and double bass professor at the Longy School of Music and Brown and Tufts Universities.

Each day will offer master classes, bass warm-up classes, orchestral classes, discussions/lectures, classical and jazz bass ensembles and evening concerts by the faculty. There will also be a gala recital featuring the participants on the last day of this event. Mornings will begin with a yoga class presented by Jean Rife; this class will address common issues related to bass playing improving awareness and flexibility. Bass maker Zachary Martin will give a class on bass maintenance and repair and will be available for adjustments and basic repairs throughout the weekend. In the exhibit hall you will find plenty of instruments and bows to try, accessories, bass music and CDs all available for purchase.

And if traveling with your bass is not possible, you can rent a bass for a nominal fee.

Helen Stevenson, Director of the Mini Bass Program at NEC and author of the American Colourstrings Double Bass books will direct a two-day children’s program for young bassists (June 30 & July 1) and students will have the opportunity to play for and work with our distinguish faculty.
