Double bassist and blogger Matt Heller has been writing a very engaging narrative about his recent successful audition for the Calgary Philharmonic. This is a must-read for people thinking about a career in classical music performance. It is hard for someone who hasn’t been on the audition circuit to understand just how much work and dedication it takes to win a job, and how nerve-wracking the experience can be. There is one more installment to come, but here’s what Matt has written so far:
- Calgary audition odyssey, part I
- Calgary audition odyssey, part II
- Calgary audition odyssey, part III
- Calgary audition odyssey, part IV
- Calgary audition odyssey, part V
- Calgary audition odyssey, part VI
- Calgary audition odyssey, part VII
Matt is also a great example of a person able to succeed on the audition circuit while still pursuing other interests, like running, reading, and (gasp!) regular blogging. Check this narrative out if you haven’t yet.
