Paul McCartney plays double bass on Heartbreak Hotel

Paul McCartney plays Bill Black’s original double bass from the early Elvis Presley recordings (white trim around the edges–very distinctive) on this video clip. He tells some Elvis traveling stories about the trio driving around with the bass strapped to the roof rack and plays ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ for the audience.

When was the last time you saw someone playing the double bass left-handed?

    Great clip!

Jennifer Leitham is a great LA-based jazz player of the Ray Brown school who plays lefty: http://www.jenniferleitham.com/

I took a couple of lessons from her, and it wasn’t as confusing as you might expect; it was like looking in the mirror.
