Double bassist and composer Donovan Stokes will be in Chicago in late May to see the World Premiere of his bass concerto “Titanium Jr.”, and he will be working with double bassists in the Chicago area in masterclass settings during this visit. Stay tuned to the blog for more information. I’ll let readers know as more information becomes available.

Donovan’s music was featured on Contrabass Conversations Episode 13. Folks who haven’t checked out this episode should click the above link and give a listen to this fantastic bassist’s original compositions–his music is featured at the beginning and end of the episode. Also, I hope to be able to work in an interview with Donovan for the podcast while he is in town this month. It should prove to be really good stuff!

Here’s some information about the concerto premiere:

The concerto was composed for Ken and combines influences from Western classical music with rock and metal styles. The last of these is reflected in the ‘Titanium’ title of the work.
