IRIS Orchestra and Dayton Philharmonic pianist Joshua Nemith put up a great post recently on his Cincinnati Pianist Blog about how to practice efficiently by organizing one’s work into 10 minute blocks. He elaborates on a post by Chris Foley (writer for the Collaborative Pianist blog) about how to organize one’s time in this manner.

Josh makes a great point—limiting your practice time to smaller chunks of time also limits the harm that can come about from bad practicing. If things start to go south while practicing, keeping mini-sessions capped at 10 minutes allows one to step outside, clear their head, and hopefully resume practicing in a better manner after the break.
