Double bassist Doug Johnson (Gunnelpumpers, Contrabass Conversations guest) recently sent me a link to this very cool video featuring a demonstration of how sound waves affect some sand. Very interesting–you can actually see how sound waves look visually!

This is obviously a shot taken during a break in a major symphony orchestra–anyone have any idea what orchestra this is? I’m sure that someone out there recognizes these basses!
