Thanks for these articles. More than interesting, these articles are essential for our small world. Now that the truth is out there, I think we need to get it to more music teachers in America. Then, hopefully these teachers can distribute the wisdom to the students at the right time (when they are ready). The reason why I say at the right time, is that I don't want to bass students to puke when they read the job prospects for classical bass. A few years ago I was feeling sick so I decided to read your blog for a little relaxation. As soon as I read the part of your article for aspiring musicians where there is working link to the application to Starbucks, my stomach turned. It was a scared straight moment! I found the humor in it later, but it definitely saved me from taking any more ridiculous gambles with money in my orchestra job quest. Again, great job on the articles! I like it when you get dark on our profession, goofy lifestyle, and the Vegas-like stakes of making a profit from a Music Performance degree. It feels good to know that other people are going through what we are going through, a LOT of people :D.

Hey, thanks for the great article. Really enjoyed reading it. Question: Who's the painter of the sinking ship in the raging sea that you feature at the head of the article. I'm just fascinated by it. Seem to remember it from an art history class way back, but can't seem to locate it anywhere.

Would appreciate any info you have. Thanks!

I agree with Elaine Fine (with whom I worked in Memphis); you definitely should publish this material in book form and offer it to the public. Also post a link to your Amazon sales page on viola list, Orchestra list, string_teacher_support, and all the other groups [See String-Related Listservs at http://beststudentviolins.com/listservs.html ] Excellent work, and right (so to speak) on the money.
