ArtsJournal blogger Greg Sandow wrote a recent post about the Dakota Chamber Orchestra and the South Dakota Symphony, both mentioning Music Director Delta David Gier and providing a link to musical examples from a recent Dakota Chamber Orchestra performance from this past April.

I was a member of this orchestra from 1991-1994, which was a great experience for me (I joined when I was 15 years old). One of the benefits of coming from a sparsely populated state like South Dakota is that there was always a need for per-service positions in the string sections, and through this experience I had played most of the major orchestral repertoire (and got paid for it) by the time I was 18 years old.

TalkBass.com founder Paul Determan also played with me in this orchestra. Check out the Forums link just below the header of this blog to check out the new Contrabass Conversations forums of TalkBass.
