I had the pleasure of sitting down and interviewing the great double bass virtuoso Guy Tuneh today. Guy radiates a love of the instrument in everything he does, and I know that musicians of all disciplines will love to hear this great artist speak from the heart.

If you haven’t heard Guy’s bass playing, you’re really missing out. You can hear his playing through the following links:

    After that interview;
Maestro Tuneh is an Amazing Artist from other Dimension.
i liked his way of speaking about music but most of all, to teach us the right thing: to love what we do and not to Step the others on our way.we will not even need it!
    What a great person!!!!
    hoo Jason, go on …!!

This Guy is Crazy or somthing or maybe Genius.
he thinks that the bass is like a Violin or somthing.
well if he can play like fast things & to “sing” on that instroment(solo)…. why not!
for people like me, i’m happy to play in orchestra or something like this.
he is trying to make the bass “big”,
the bass sould be where it is all the time!!

Still thinking about every word that Maestro Tuneh said,
finaly musicion who dont have his EGO in the sky (never forget where he is comming from).
Great true and helpfull interview for everyone.
In the end i got the feeling that Mr.Tuneh gave us so much from himself and that the interview is about us, about everyone and not only about him.
about how to help us the “little” people
the simple bass players.. (you need to be Big nobel person to help Just like this and to speak from his heart, without to ask for something for it, my Bass Prof. in Germany
did only busines all the time-and teachted to less)
Mr. Tuneh you are great, thanks alot for changing my way of thinking about the bass and music. (My Prof. could not do it in 5 years!!)
It would be nice to hear from you again in one of the interview with Jason or someone else.

Great Interview, please post more from this Bassist (he isnt bass player, he is a Violin player with a soul of an Opera singer!!!)

So its not only in my head that something in the music world goes wrong!!!
only cold hard musicians are on the top, the soloists of today have no idea about playing – only technic is importent, how you smile and how to leck the A++ of the others!.
Orchestra instrumentalists are arrogant and the Professors sure that they are Right in everything that they do!
For me, the hope of music in the future calls GUY TUNEH and other musicians who think like him (still he is the only one that i know).
BRAVO the this kind of player is thinking differently.
Lets hope that he will survive in this crazy cold and stupid
    music world!!!!
i can understand if he dont wont to have any conection to other musicians.

After surfing around in this Blog:
Why when a person speaks so deeply and so truthful from his heart
saying very important things!!! and gives his wishs to every one out there,
why SOME people using this Great Blog as a stage to “to pay back” Guy Tuneh??
After all, very few (if not less than) can speak or play like him!

Bravo Mr. Tuneh for speaking smart
Bravo Mr. Tuneh for playing so beautiful.

I think that the biggest mistake that Mr. Tuneh is doing, is that he tries to be “beloved” by bass-players.
It will lead him to misconceive!!!
Bass-players can be moronic, how can you even dare to think that the level of bass playing today is so good or impresive???
It needs more than just to play the right notes in the right time to say that bassists are amazing or the bass world is getting “kick”, look all over, bassists are playing like a machines, copying each other, is this the level that we as bass-players would like to achieve??
(…some will say yes, well, this comment is not for these guys, they souldnt read it!)
Every monky to play fast is getting the stage, if Patkolo would hear the original Sarasate or the original Cerney he would hide
and very fast, to be a “hero” because all the Idiots out there are simply morons without any idea how the things sould realy sound, or because he is playing just fast like a shocked-monky in a circus!! (sorry for sounding so hard…)
To try to impress the bass-community is a big mistake especially when we have to do with player like Guy Tuneh!!
He sould go and perform to a real audiance and not infront of moronic people to make a moronic comments.
Mr. Tuneh can be in front of the stage with first class muscicians who try to show more than just “I can play the notes”
(like our Prof. from Arizona – Rococo have never being so boring
or cramped on bass, he sould try to impress a real musicians and yound students who are looking for teacher…).
The same mistake did the great O. Badila – try to show to bassists a “new world”, they didnt understand it!! (in 50 years maybe…) and he made himself very tangible because of that Amazing Talent that he was.
Guy Tuneh sould take care and just do his way, and never sould listen to comments from morons like some bassists can be!
its waste of time and energy!!!
Huge Talent like G. Tuneh sould go on with creating new standarts
and giving us like always alot to think about!!.

(To give 5 stars in You-Tube for a drunken-bassist who “try” to
play standarts and “proud” that his orchestra – LSO – was making him to a Joke after playing wrong! – bunch of idiots),
Thank you for making my point:
Once again – its waste of time and energy!!!

(sorry if i heart someone – but its a free land….)

    and i’m not stupid Dragotesini!!

  49. M.
    23 February 2009, 6:02 am

I Think that Mr. Tuneh give us some new things to think about and he has the “power” to make us looking at ourself
and to ask: what can i do better?
This is like gold – its the best teacher
    that someone can have!!!

  50. Constantine
    21 March 2009, 4:07 am

    This Guy is Genius!

  51. ADAM
    28 March 2009, 5:52 pm

I still thinking that to be a GREAT musician, You have to be
    a GREAT person,
thank you Maestro Tuneh for making my point!!!
