I am currently working on integrating a system called CrowdAbout into the Contrabass Conversations podcast. CrowdAbout (and several other services) allow producers (as well as listeners) to put virtual push-pins into podcast files, labeling where various events occur and providing links to more resources.
Listeners can leave comments at specific points in episodes. These comments can be text, audio (if you’ve got a mic hooked up to your computer), or video.
My mind is spinning at the possibilities.
Here’s an example of how this works:
Contrabass Conversations episodes are shows, with a beginning, middle, and end, plus music, bass news, and, of course, interviews. Trying to find a specific point in time in a particular episode (say, when Lawrence Hurst talks about how auditions started changing as screens went up) is pretty hard to do right now. As time goes by, I will be labeling such things, and listeners will be able to label things that are of interest to them as well.
Not only can you label events, but you can also provide links to things being discussed (either resource links or further reading links), giving a whole new level of interactivity to the production.
This will allow listeners to find particular interviews very quickly, scan for items of particular interest, find certain songs played, and more. Very cool!
I will be working on this over the next few weeks, and I will let listeners and readers know as I start to get links up and accessible. These services will be rolled into this website as well as Contrabass Conversations.
