Double bassist Andy Anderson (member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago orchestra and Grant Park Symphony, and a frequent Contrabass Conversations guest) mentioned to me recently the usefulness of conducting a survey of double bass airline travel experiences. I think that this is a fantastic idea (and one the ties in quite well with yesterday’s Basses, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles story), and this data could be quite useful to double bassists everywhere.

The survey contains general questions about reader experiences with double bass flight, concluding with a section to rate and describe experiences on various airlines. I will then compile this data and make it public, along with user experiences.

For the sake of simplicity, I only listed major North American carriers, but I included a section to rate and write in any airline not listed. The more responses we get, the more valuable the data becomes, so please take the survey (it only takes a couple of minutes) and help the bass community to discover which airlines are bass-friendly.

Take the Double Bass Airline Experiences survey

If you have a longer story that doesn’t fit within the confines of the survey box, please e-mail it to me (jsh177@yahoo.com) or leave a comment, and I’ll share it with the bass community!
