I’d like to thank people for the positive comments about Ranaan Meyer’s Czardas video, which we put out as a Contrabass Conversations episode yesterday. Here is a video of Ranaan’s fabulous trio Time for Three performing the Monti Czardas. I wonder if Ranaan got some of his stylistic ideas for the piece from playing it with the trio? Ranaan takes several liberties with the piece on yesterday’s video which really spice things up.

Time for Three plays Czardas

Time for Three is a great example of a group that really gets how to function in a new media era, using MySpace, YouTube, and other social media services to help spread the word, book tour dates, and sell albums. They understand that having a few videos like this one out on the Internet will not hurt their “bottom line”, but only help with promotion.

A classic recent example of someone who just doesn’t get it is the elder jazz statesman Keith Jarrett, caught on video berating and cursing at his Italian fans for recording some of the live performance. This is a nasty little video, and I’m not going to embed it here, but you can follow this link to watch it if you like. Thanks to Matt Wengerd’s post and On An Overgrown Path’s post for alerting me to this video.
