Readers could easily have missed double bassist Phillip Serna’s great post yesterday on double bass private studio teaching amidst the glut of posts we’ve put out this week.  In this post, Phillip details the steps he went through in establishing himself as a full-time double bass studio teacher in the Chicago suburbs.

If one is interested in building up and developing a private teaching studio (for any instrument, not just bass), this would be a great post to check out.  Phillip was wildly successful in his goal, at one point teaching around 75 (!) private students.  Even if these students had all been half-hour lessons (and many were hour lessons), that would have been bumping up on 40 hours of actual teaching time.  With the hour lessons added in, Phillip was over 50 hours of teaching time a week before even factoring in commuting time from school to school and the fact that many lessons were not back-to-back.

Talk about a road warrior!  Maybe, for his next post, Phillip will chime in on how he actually managed to do this and stay sane.
