I’ve been enjoying reading the posts from Eastman School of Music senior (and former student of mine) Eric Steffens on his blog documenting his experiences studying bass in Vienna.  Eric has been having a great time checking out all sorts of things in Austria, like discovering a house that Beethoven lived in:

…seeing a performance of Manon Lescaut (video link), climbing the bizarre “Schlossberg” in the middle of Graz:

…checking out some concerts at Vienna’s Musikverein:

…or coming up with improvised music stands:

Check out Eric’s blog for more from his experience studying abroad.  I am definitely having a good time following his adventures, and while I wish that I was over there playing bass and checking out all of the wonders (musical and otherwise) of Austria, I am also happy to be able to follow along via Eric’s blog.

I had a great time studying in Germany one summer (you can read about that experience in my story titled You Play Solo…I Dance), but I’ve never gotten the chance to go to Austria.  I’m looking forward to it happening (hopefully) one of these days.
