Ever since I got into podcasting, I have been itching to do what I’m launching this week.  My original idea for starting a podcast was something like a combination of Digital Flotsam (if you haven’t heard this show, stop what you’re doing and check it out–it’s fantastic) and This American Life–in other words, I wanted to create a whimsical story show with music, ambient noise and effects, and songs related to the content.  I started the Contrabass Conversations podcast because this was the topic that I knew the most about, and there was a dearth of audio and material in a regular episodic format for this subject, but in the back of my mind I’ve always been kicking around the idea of how to incorporate some of my own stuff in this project (apart from hosting it, producing it, and the like).

Anyway, I finally worked up the guts to try this sort of thing, using some of my favorite crazy gig stories as material and adding sound effects, musical backing tracks, background noise, and other production elements to make little (around 10 minutes) lighthearted tales from the blog.  I’ve been having a grand time putting these together, and although I make no promises as to the frequency of these audio tales (they take a lot of work!), I shall try to put them out at least somewhat regularly.  Once I wrap up a story, I will also put a player on the related story page here on the blog, so that folks can click the player and listen along as they read the story and check out the photos.

These episodes will be called Story Time with Contrabass Conversations, and the first story to launch will be Basses, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Part 1: Cabs.  Expect My Car Caught Fire and Exploded! to follow soon.
