Heated back-and-forth in comments to ‘This Crazy Business’ continue


I never thought that my post about the satisfaction of section playing would stir up so much controversy!  The comments continue to come in, with some pretty differing opinions on the subject.

It makes me wonder how one’s perspective on this subject is shaped by their schooling.  It sounds to me like many (but not all) American commenters are coming down in favor of section playing as a favored mode of double bass playing, while many (but not all) European commenters are coming down in favor of solo/non-orchestral playing as a favored musical outlet.  Perhaps this is material for a future post…
