You never know what is going to get popular online. You spend your days toiling endlessly, writing thoughts and observations about the music biz, editing audio and video, and trying to bring together a community of instrumentalists, and what gets popular? What gets over 1000 views in a matter of hours? Freaking cats dancing to various styles of music, that’s what! Grant Park Symphony and Phoenix Symphony bassist Jonathan Imsande sent me these photos over the summer, and I blogged them in August. Check them out if you’ve missed them–they really are a hoot.
There’s a very cool program called StumbleUpon that I use to find fun new stories. It is hopelessly addictive once you start using it, so I apologize in advance if you decide to install it. Anyway, you can submit stories to StumbleUpon, and if they get popular, they start to rise in the ranks, getting more views, etc… That’s what must have happened with the kitty photos.
What did that do to traffic? Well, we usually average a little over 1000 page views a day (quite a bit of traffic) here on the bass blog. Yesterday we reached around 2300 page views! You know, even 1000 page views is pretty darn good, now that I think about it. Gotta start trying to leverage those numbers….
