The Macao Orchestra

General Information - The Macao Orchestra is a professional ensemble, organized
under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special
Administrative Region Government. The Macao Orchestra will be participating in
many major performances. The Macao Orchestra has organized and will organize
many tours outside Macao. The Orchestra currently has several openings for
musicians and principal in various sections, and welcomes applications from
musicians around the world. The Cultural Affairs Bureau welcomes applications
from experienced professional musicians and students, who have received a
complete musical training in an institution of international repute, and able to
participate in English-language rehearsals. All others conditions being equal,
preference will be given to holders of Macao identity cards. Musicians will work
ninety (90) hours per month, which shall include rehearsals and performances,
preparation a maximum of 32 different programs for public performance per annum;
a maximum of 80 school concerts; some individual or group tuition, recordings
and other activities. Salary (gross, in Macao currency, MOP): a. Regular
musicians: MOP $19,904.40 per month; Assistant Concertmaster: MOP $27,237.60 or
above per month; Section principals: MOP $25,142.40 per month; Musicians with
doubling, will have an extra allowance of MOP $1,000.00; Yearly net income for a
section principal is approximately 40,552.00 USD, for reference only. b. All
full time orchestra musicians are entitled to a MOP $1,000.00 monthly housing
subsidy; c. The salary includes one month paid vacation, usually taken in
August; d. In addition to the monthly salary, an extra bonus equivalent to one
month’s salary is paid (pro rata) (According to the result of the appraisal); e.
The Orchestra will purchase labor insurance and health insurance for each
musician. f. Any fulltime musicians who have continually worked in the Macao
Orchestra for two years will receive a monthly increment of MOP$500.00 from the
beginning of the third year onwards. Then, for each two year, there will be a
monthly increment of MOP$500.00. The upper limit of this increment will be
MOP$2,500.00. g. Others perks are specified on the website. Notes, for reference
only: Macao Pataca: Hong Kong Dollar exchange rate is 103.2:100; the net income
from a monthly salary of MOP$19,904.40 is MOP$19,032.40. The net income from a
monthly salary of MOP $25,142.40 is MOP$24,041.00. Applications must contain the
following: one copy of passport, diplomas transcripts, proof of awards received
and current employment, along with 3 copies of a recent photograph; one copy of
an audition tape (1/2 inch VHS format or PAL format or NTSC format) or DVD/VCD.
