Steve Reinfranck on Contrabass Conversations this week


We hope that folks enjoyed this past weekend’s first installment of our Contrabass Conversations feature on Peter Seymour and his kickin’ new trio Project.  We’ll be featuring the rest of this interview plus more from Project in the next few weeks.  Check out Project’s website at www.whatisproject.org.

This weekend we will be featuring and interview with and music from double bass teacher and luthier Steve Reinfranck.  Steve owns and operates SMR Double Basses, a retail and repair shop specializing in the double bass, and getting an opportunity to learn about the bass from a luthier’s perspective should prove to be very interesting for folks out there.

Steve is also a prominent teacher in the Chicago area, and he has authored columns for Bass World, the publication of the International Society of Bassists, for several years.  He also arranged a benefit concert in the Chicago area a few years ago featuring Gary Karr, raising money to help repair double basses in area schools.  We chatted about these topics plus much more, so stay tuned for this, and check out some of Steve’s bass playing after the interview!
