I have been remiss in mentioning how much I’ve enjoyed reading posts from conductors (and now bloggers) Bill Eddins and Ron Spigelman on their new blog Sticks and Drones. This blog duo packs a very entertaining punch, and I’ve been having fun checking out their various thoughts, observations, and rants.

Ron wrote a very funny post titled YO!…We put the ASS in clASSical! about how obvious and insincere attempts to market classical music to a younger audience can actually come off as offensive to both the prospective audience being targeted and to the art form in general. Obvious attempts to make classical music ‘hip’ rarely work, and that trying to package it as a Rock & Roll or Hip Hop experience can come off as crude and more than a little pathetic.

Bill wrote a post about an Edmonton blogger who decided to try live blogging during an Edmonton Symphony concert. Read Bill’s post here, and check out the blogger’s posts from the event here–it’s always weird to read a live blog after the fact. I check this sort of thing out in the tech industry all the time, and if often amounts to "wait…here comes the store clerk. He’s opening the doors. We’re walking in. YES! We’re all streaming over to pick up our copy of Leopard (the new Mac operating system). This is exciting!"

I’ve been having a great time with this blog, and I always look forward to new posts from Ron and Bill!
