The following is an instrument search request from Erik Dorset at the Akademie für Alte Musik in Berlin:
Dear Early Music Friends,
Quite simply, this is a desperate call for your help. No- not money, but a double bass is needed.
As we at the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin are making preparations for our next tour to the
United States and Canada this coming April, we have just found out to our dismay
that it will be impossible for us to bring our own double bass from Germany into
the United States. Now, don’t ask me why, but it’s just not allowed- I guess
this is one of those points where Homeland Security and Immigration have set
their foot down and said ‘no’ (I’m by the way American so I’m allowed to gripe
here.) After all, those basses are a real security threat and could explode in
the cargo hold of the airplane… yeah right.
In any case, with our hands empty right now, I have been asked to write to you in order to find a
baroque contrabass. Our tour schedule is like this:
April 5th- Kansas City
April 6th- Atlanta, GA
April 8th-Charlottesville, VA
April 10th- U Illinois Urbana
April 11th- UCLA
April 12th- UC Berkeley
April 14th- Vancouver
April 16th- New York, Carnegie Hall
Would any of you be able to help us here, either providing us a bass for one specific concert, for a part of the tour, or for the entire tour? Or perhaps you know of someone who has
access to a contrabass that we could use? In either way, we would definitely
appreciate your help! Please do not hesitate to contact us at the Akademie; we
can be reached with per e-mail at:
email@example.com (my personal address)
Thank you in advance for your help!
