Double bassist Christopher Rose is on a search for the Hertl Sonata for double bass and piano. This piece has proven to be quite difficult to track down. Christopher writes:
Hi all. I’m trying to track down the music for the Hertl Sonata for a recital I’m giving later this semester. (5pm April 1st, Katzin Concert Hall (ASU), Tempe, Arizona – yes, shameless plug.) I’ve exhausted every source I can think of, and many more I stumbled upon, and have not found anything. Closest I came was a statement that “Recital Music will republish in 2006 with piano parts available in both solo and orchestral tuning.” Recital music does not have it for sale, so I really don’t know if it just didn’t get printed, or got printed and quickly went out of print again. If anyone has any information as to where I might get my hands on this music, please let me know!
Thanks,
Chris Rose
Any information on this work would be appreciated!

The sonata is in Northwestern University’s music library… maybe you can run a make a nice copy of it…
I recently purchased this sonata from the publisher in Europe. It’s a special order so it takes a little while but it is available. Contact Barenreiter Prague directly via musicpbl (at) ebp (dot) cz .
Thanks for the lead–I’ll be sure to pass this info along.
I have the Hertl Sonata, first edition, 1956. There are no prefatory notes. Solo tuning. Contact me for further information.
Also, it appears the Eastman School of Music’s Sibley Music Library has 3 editions and a recording of it. Good Luck!
