This blog represents the constant, gopher-like work of one overcaffeinated bassist’s multi-year attempt to create a resource bank for the double bass community (plus crazy gig stories and cat posts, of course!).  Though I am constantly working to tweak the user interface to walk the line between showing too much and not showing enough, I know that there are a lot of cool features that I simply can’t highlight on the top menu bar.  Here are some that readers may have not checked out:

Collaborators – We have several people who contribute regularly to doublebassblog.org, and putting together a page with some biographical information about these individuals is long overdue.  This link now takes you to the landing page for our contributors, and you can access all posts from them through this.  Longer form posts are also available at www.doublebassblog.org/articles. 

Frequently Asked Questions – We recently rolled out a page attempting to answer newbie questions about blogging, podcasting, and what on Earth this site is all about.  This link is located just underneath our subscription information in the left sidebar.

Sitemap – If you just want a logical layout of all the blog resources, organized by topic, your best bet is the sitemap.  This link is located in the top menubar of the blog.

Teacher Directory – Do you teach the bass?  Then add yourself to the doublebassblog.org Teacher Directory! 

Polls Archive – All of our former polls are still active, so feel free to vote for them if you haven’t before.  As time goes by, we’re likely to get quite an interesting little database built up on this page!  This feature can be found at doublebassblog.org/features/pollsarchive.

Virtual Master Class Project – This feature allows anyone to submit tracks for anonymous posting on the blog.  Readers from around the world can then submit constructive criticism regarding this track–like a master class with a worldwide scope.  This is the sort of thing that wouldn’t be possible before the advent of new media and social management systems like blogs, and it is one of the reasons why I think blogs are so cool.

Any Post or Page Printable – While many people may grunt and shrug at this feature, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked how to print information on the blog without getting all the static content in the sidebars and web formatting that garbles up print jobs.  With the new WordPress blog management system, if you can read it on the blog, you can print it–just click the little printer icon and a paper-friendly version of what you’re reading will load.
