The following information was forwarded to me by Erik Dorset from the Akademie für Alte Musik in Berlin:

I am happy to write here that we have found a solution to our double bass problem for the upcoming USA-Canada tour with the Akademie in April. Although Continental Airlines is still forbidding us to check the instrument in, our manager will be flying to the United States with another carrier that does allow the bass to go into the cargo hold of the plane.

As you can imagine, we (especially our bass player) at the Akademie are quite relieved with this development.

Still, I would like to take a moment here to thank everyone for their help, and with this, I would also like to ask something: to those of you who offered or were able to locate instruments for us, would it be possible for us to keep your contact information on hand? There have been one or two times in the past where we have arrived in a city by plane, only to realize that the bass did not survive the flight. Not to say that this is going to happen to us on the tour, but a plan B in hand is always good to have. Please let us know if that is okay.

Again, we are really grateful for the outpouring of assistance here- thank you! And now it’s time for us to get down to work and do what we really want to do- get a great concert tour together for the States and Canada, coming to you in April at a concert hall near you.

With best regards,

Erik Dorset- violin, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin
