We’ll be featuring an interview with David Murray, Volkan Orhon, Paul Sharpe, and Anthony Stoops on this weekend’s Contrabass Conversations episode. These four bassists have been assembling from time to time as the Bad Boyz of Bass, and they are certainly an entertaining and engaging group of musicians!
Anthony Stoops was featured recently as an interview guest on the podcast, and we also featured Volkan playing one of Chris Threlkeld-Wiegand‘s basses on our interview with this fine luthier. It’s amazing how small the bass world actually is–these lines we’re casting out in all directions within the bass community are actually highlighting connections that so many influential bassists have with each other.
Perhaps a family tree for the Contrabass Conversations guests would be in order–it would be interesting to see just how much commonality guests have with each other. Maybe it’s this way for all classical musicians (we are, after all, a fairly insular community), but the bass community seems especially closely knit to me!
