We’re kicking the Contrabass Conversations podcast series into high gear this spring (March is spring for me, no matter how much snow is still on the ground), interviewing bass performers, teacher, and luthiers from all over the United States (and beyond).

Last week, I interviewed double bassist Anthony Stoops, which you can check out on episode 67 of the podcast.  We also published the final segment of our interview with Owen Lee on episode 68 of the podcast, and we’re featuring an interview with Heartland String Bass Shop owner and bass luthier Chris Threlkeld-Wiegand this weekend on episode 69 of the podcast.  We’ll also be including photos of Chris’ beautifully crafted basses along with this episode, so stay tuned for it on Saturday this weekend.

But wait, there’s more!  We’ve also got a new Exploring Chamber Music episode coming out with Brad Opland and the Chicago Chamber Musicians.  This series explores chamber music featuring the double bass, and you can check out our first two episodes on the Exploring Chamber Music page.

John Grillo of classicalmusicnews.tv and I are also interviewing Barrie Kolstein, one of the pillars of the double bass community for decades.  This will be a wonderful treat for bassists everywhere and a great glimpse into the Kolstein shop.

I will also be chatting with the Bad Boyz of Bass (Anthony Stoops, Volkan Orhon, Paul Sharpe, and David Murray) this Friday, which should prove to be a real blast.  We’ll feature this ensemble’s playing as well as this interview on an upcoming podcast episode.

Cool stuff, huh?
