How people use doublebassblog.org

Actually, this post could quite easily be framed as a question rather than a statement: how do you, the reader, use, access, and derive value from this site? Though I’ve posed this question on polls in the site (and have gotten very interesting results), readership continues to grow by leaps and bounds each month, and new arrivals to this site may quite well be utilizing this site in different ways than folks who’ve been with me for a year or two (or more!).

I basically see people interacting with this site in one of three ways these days:

1) Daily News Site – This blog is, to my knowledge, the only place either online or offline for daily double bass news. Though we feature much more than just news about the bass, this has been and will continue to be a major part of what we do here.

2) Resource Site and Information Hub – With dozens of more static and/or slowly evolving features like our teachers, students, jazz, and classical pages, our hundreds of archived articles and gig stories, our downloads, links, virtual master class project, events calendar, for sale page, and much more (I get exhausted just thinking about it), this site is a veritable library of double bass information. Beneath the blog exterior is a massive amount of text, audio, and video content, freely accessible and searchable. The interactivity built into these various projects (readers can submit their own resources, recordings, and videos easily into the doublebassblog.org framework), this site will continue to grow in depth and breadth of content over time.

3) Launching Pad for Rich Media Content – Every month, I sit back and smile as I see more and more people start to really get what the Contrabass Conversations podcast network is all about. We’re not only creating an audiovisual library of double bass interviews, performances, lessons, and master classes, but we’re encasing it in an interactive show format.

My eyes really light up when I see these podcasts displayed on an iPhone or other smart phone, and I can’t help but smile when I see “Contrabass Conversations – double bass podcast about life on the low end of the spectrum” scrolling across someone’s iPod or Zune.
