…in the morning, at least!  I spent all of 2007 waking up between four and five a.m., putting the coffee on the stove, cracking my knuckles, and churning out 3-5 blog posts per day.  This schedule, quite frankly, was necessitated by both all of my other activities that year (this was the only free time I had during the day), and Blogger’s kludgey publishing interface.  Blogger, which was what I used to manage this blog from 2005 until my joyous switch to WordPress in late 2007, doesn’t allow for future posting, meaning that if I wanted to put out a post, I had to physically sit down at my computer and click the ‘publish’ button.

The Benefits of WordPress… and how it’s made me lazy!

WordPress has a marvelous feature that allows me to specify when to publish a post, meaning that I can write whenever I want and set the system up to publish these posts for me.  This is a beautiful thing!  I no longer have to baby-sit my blog each morning, so these days I usually write all my content for the week in one or two sessions, then set all the posts to publish each day for the remainder of the week.  Now my blog manages itself while I sleep blissfully.

Also, my schedule eased up a lot in 2008, giving me more time in general for all my blogging, podcasting, and new media projects (as well as some time to just take a walk, play with the cats, and go out on the town with my wife).

Busy to the Max

Sleepy-JasonThis past weekend was completely packed with gigs, and I found myself in the  rare position of having gone the entire week without writing and new content for the blog.

"No problem," I said to myself.  "I’ll just get up at 4 a.m. like I used to and pump out some content.  I used to do it every day, after all.  How hard could it be?"

Well, maybe I’m just getting old, or maybe I’m becoming a wimp in my old age (I just turned 32 a few days ago–nearly time for Social Security, right?), but that alarm went off like a thousand daggers into my brain.  I got up, staggering around and trying to get my bearings.  My stomach felt like it was filled with battery acid, and I was having a hard tme keeping my hands from shaking.

Why, oh why, was I up so early?  Was I planning on….blogging?  What am I, insane?  How could I possibly write?  I couldn’t even see straight!

Hydration or Caffeineation?

soda-and-coffeeI went over to the stove.  Coffee!  I needed coffee!  I put it on, feeling   massively nasty, and opened up a can of soda, thinking that a little bubbly liquid would calm my stomach.

I downed one soda.  Ugh!  No better.  I cracked another one and headed over to the computer.  How could I have possibly done this every morning?  I had come home late from a gig the previous evening, but I had done that for all of 2007 as well.  How could I have done that?

I drank the soda, now just feeling like a big bloated bubbly mess, and started trying to think of some posts to write.  Posts?  How could I possibly think of anything to write, except ‘Jason go sleep now….no bloggy this morning’.

I started typing.

Needless to say, this was not a good blogging session!  I crawled onto the couch, closed my eyes, and drifted off as the kettle whistled away unheeded in the next room.

Either I have really become a wimp in the last few months, or I was completely insane before and have now seen the light.  But I have the feeling that my mornings in the near future will be more sleepy and less bloggy.
