How NOT to sing!

This video popped in, of all places, one of my music education classes at DePaul University. I’ve been taking a course in class voice pedagogy this spring, and we’ve been covering how important it is for kids to sing with light voices, good posture, and proper vocal technique. Though this video is on some levels really funny, it makes me wonder:

  • How come the mom filming it is egging him on to shout so much?
  • What should the teacher have done to rectify this situation?
  • What kind of musical experience are the other kids next to this little guy having?

Not that a recital like this has to be an earth-shattering musical experience, but c’mon….
