As I’ve blogged several times in the past month, my summer so far has been spent playing chamber music in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin. This has been a blast, but after several weeks up north I’ve been itching to get back to Chicago, and I ducked mid-concert on July 3rd (I only played the first piece on the concert) to drive back and hang out with Courtney. Though I’m getting pretty weary of long drives (as anyone who has checked out Road Warrior Without an Expense Account knows!), it was well worth the trip. Seeing the fireworks from Navy Pier in downtown Chicago is a real treat, and the carnival atmosphere of this place made for a great 4th of July.

We did the whole nine yards–took a ride on the ferris wheel, went out for a harbor cruise (right around sunset–very cool!), and stayed for the fireworks. Here are some of my favorite pics from the trip.  Chick on any of them for a closer look:
