I have been doing a surprising amount of blogging on the iPhone ever since the WordPress mobile application was released for the iPhone operating system. While it may seem kind of cumbersome to write extended blog posts on a mobile device–I only planned on doing some editing on the fly with it–this is a marvelous little app that actually fits my blogging style perfectly.

At present, I am constantly in motion, trying to steal a moment here and there to work on the blog. I’ve tried to keep my laptop with me wherever I go, cramming in mini blog sessions on the train, in the parking lot, or backstage before a concert.

Carrying a laptop with me everywhere is kind of a pain, and it makes me look kind of like an idiot in many of my daily circumstances. My iPhone fits in my pocket, ready to whip out at an point and jot down an idea, edit a post, or work on some upcoming material for the blog.

This WordPress app certainly has its limitations, however–adding links is a huge pain, and while it’s a breeze to add photos, there isn’t a particularly easy way to do any finer manipulation.

Having said that, this is light years ahead of any other mobile blogging app, allowing me to start a post on the iPhone, continue it on the desktop, and put the final touches on the mobile platform. I can add categories and tags, take photos or screenshots on the iPhone and add them to a post, and even set items to post in the future.

Typing on the little on screen keyboard was a little frustrating at first, but my two thumb technique has improved considerably, and while I’m still a lot slower than on a traditional keyboard, it’s fast enough to get a good blogging rhythm going. All in all, it is very cool, and I can see myself using this app as my primary interface with my blog in terms of creating original content and managing posts.
