Double bassist Barry Green has had one of the most varied and interesting careers imaginable over the past few decades. After being appointed as Principal Bass of the Cincinnati Symphony at a young age (a position he held for 28 years), Barry moved to Northern California, where he is currently directing a young bassist program for the San Francisco Symphony Education Department, teaches privately at Stanley Intermediate in Lafayette and at the U. of Calif. Santa Cruz and has organized the Northern California Bass Club.
Barry is perhaps most renowned for his highly influential book The Inner Game of Music (1986), which he co-authored with Timothy Galloway. This book was one of my constant companions throughout high school–I must have read it at least a dozen times. It’s filled with valuable information and life lessons for musicians of any age, and if you haven’t checked it out I highly recommend doing so!
Barry will be hosting two bass events in 2009:
- Las Vegas Bass Workshop (Jan. 10, 2009)
- Bass Bash in San Francisco (July 5-12, 2009)
Stay tuned to www.innergameofmusic.com for more information on these events, and I’ll post material as it comes in about them as well. Cool stuff from Barry!
